Everything you need to know about the Sigma Hydro Sponge

A good grout sponge does two jobs. It holds plenty of clean water to lift grout residue off the tile face, and it lets go of dirty water quickly when you rinse it. Hydro sponges are made for high absorbency, so each wipe picks up more and you spend less time at the bucket.

At 18 x 12 x 6cm it sits comfortably in one hand and is deep enough to hold a good amount of water, which suits both wall and floor tiling. Wring it out well before each pass, as a sponge that's too wet can wash grout out of the joints. Wipe diagonally across the joints and rinse often in clean water.

When the joints have firmed and a light haze is left on the tiles, a sponge with a scrubber face, such as the Marshalltown Scrub Sponge Large, handles the final clean. Many tilers keep both on hand alongside a bucket of clean rinse water.
